• Engine motor mounts align your car’s engine and stabilize it. Despite being small in size, they play a crucial role regarding your vehicle’s functionality. Faulty motor mounts can cause performance issues, so you should replace them right away.
• Wheel hubs include the wheel speed sensor responsible for controlling the anti-lock braking system. A signal is transmitted to the braking system depending upon the speed of each wheel, which is particularly important during emergencies. Check wheel hubs regularly to ensure they are working properly.
• Change the engine oil every 3 months, or after your car has completed a distance of 3,000 kilometers, whichever is first. The engine and motor oil work in tandem, so you have to be on top of the oil-change schedule.
• Keep tabs on the air pressure in your car tires, at least once a month. Systematic checks help prevent unexpected flats and excess wear. Incorrect tire pressure also leads to loss of mileage. You should also use a good rubber protectant to avoid damage from UV rays.
• Don’t forget about the car exterior. Minimize dents, chips and scratches by taking care of them immediately. While cleaning your car, make a note of the areas needing repair and get it done.
• Look for warning signs. Of course, not every little noise you hear means something is wrong. But with a high mileage car, it is best to check out any symptom, be it a sound, smell, or just a feeling that seems the slightest bit out of the ordinary.
• Pay attention to outward signs. If your car is leaking oil or coolant, it could indicate a serious problem. Look carefully at your driveway or parking space for oil stains or spots that can warn you of possible fluid leaks.
• Take a peek under the hood at times to check if everything is as it should be –looking underneath helps you spot problems before they become extravagant repair costs. Do it when the car engine is cold.
